She’s the daughter of a prominent filmmaker but she’s made a niche for herself due to her talents and the characters she played. Alia Bhatt has made 9 films in 5 years and she’s done a variety of roles which earns her the status of a subjective figure than a plot device or ornament. And, she is talented enough to own the title. Here are those performances with which she made an impact as the subjective figure.
Veera, Highway (2014)
This movie came out after the student of the year where she played a character torn between two hot men. She plays a child abuse survivor who finds freedom after she was kidnapped. Alia delivered a haunting performance notably in the scene where she confronts her uncle who sexually abused her when she was a child.
“Mary Jane”, Udta Punjab (2016)
She plays an unnamed migrant but she stole the show. Alia plays a Bihari migrant who comes across a packet of heroin. Circumstances make a sex slave who repeatedly drugged and raped. Unlike the traditional toxic representation of sexual assault survivors, she stands up for herself and calls out to her assaulters as opposed to blaming herself and identifying with that of a “damaged vessel”. Her dialects, appearance and performance make it believable and we feel for her. Udta Punjab is indeed her best performance.
Kaira, Dear Zindagi (2016)
A voice for those facing difficult circumstances and for those having mental health issues. Alia plays the girl who embraces and life and for the chant “love you Zindagi”. She stands shoulder to shoulder with SRK and steals the show whenever she is on.
She became an overnight meme when she accidentally shouted “Prithviraj Chauhan!” when she was asked “who is the president of India” in Koffee with Karan. But she took the memes in good sport and made fun of herself.
And when she won the Koffee quiz in Koffee with Karan season 5. 😛
Happy Birthday Alia!!! 😀
