#RIP Alan Rickman

Yesterday, the world said goodbye to one of the most iconic actors of his generation. But to most of the kids who grew up in the 2000s, he is known as Prof Snape. Alan Rickman succumbed to cancer and is survived by his wife Rima Horton. Before he was Prof Snape, he earned popularity with his charismatic portrayal of a terrorist named Hans Gruber in Die Hard and an eccentric yet inhuman Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood the prince of thieves.

My favorite roles

  1. Severus Snape, Harry Potter series

There is absolutely no doubt that this straight faced intimidating fellow is among my personal favorites. He made a three digit number sound cool. We love him, we hate him. But at the end of the day, he is the best character in the series and Rickman’s performance makes this character admirable.

   2. Hans Gruber, Die hard

The charming villain of Die hard. Hans Gruber made it to the AFI’s 100 heroes, 100 villains list. This is his debut film (yep, not kidding) and he gave us a slick clever villain to remember.

 3. Sheriff of Nottingham, Robin Hood the prince of thieves

Even though the film was about Robin Hood played by Kevin Costner, the show was stolen by two people, Morgan Freeman and Alan Rickman. Alan won the BAFTA award for best supporting actor.

4. Colonel Brandon, Sense and sensibility

Alan plays the good guy. Remember the memorable scene where he reads to Marianne (Kate Winslet).

Honorable mention

This hilarious scene from love actually, that reminds me about how I used to do experiments in Chemistry lab.

RIP
